Mathematics:  We challenge your child with our proven math curriculum. The program gives your child the ability to master concepts and expand upon current knowledge. Your progression in all levels of math is totally dependent on the skills of your child. Our focus is on one concept at a time, building on that core knowledge so that when a new lesson is taught at school, your child can finally feel confident in his or her ability to adapt and learn. Our kids love our math worksheets as they are based on interesting word problems and are not repetitive.

Reading: The Young Engineers Program teaches reading strategies to enhance your child’s reading skills. We will teach active reading strategies which helps encompass questioning, connecting, predicting reviewing, evaluating and visualizing as your child reads. This involves understanding the meaning of the given passage and answering the questions using the strategies taught. Our lessons also teach your child to pay attention to the usage of vocabulary which helps comprehend the reading.

Writing: Each week there will be a creative writing assignment. We encourage the mind and spirit to be active in each student. Their writing will then be used in other projects such as Stop Motion Film creation. Technical writing will also be assigned in a quarterly time frame. Each child will write about a stem topic in a technical writing metric.

Public speaking: Each week your child will present a topic from the week’s lessons to his/her peers. Throughout the program we will encourage and strengthen the child’s ability to communicate effectively in front of a group.

After School Program Projects

Robotics:

Using the LEGO® MINDSTORMS EV3 Education kits, your child will design, build, and program multiple robots while learning the intricacies of responding to input from sensors and manipulating multiple motors. In this after school program, they will be given a task for a robot to complete, from there they will design and program a robot to complete the task.

Stop Motion Films:

Stop Motion is an animation technique that involves taking many photographs of an object and moving the object a tiny amount after each photo is taken.  Then, the pictures are viewed in sequence and the illusion of movement is achieved. In this after school program, your child will be asked to create a Film from one of their creative writings.

Simple Machines:

Simple Machines demonstrate basic configurations of gears, shafts, pulleys, turntables and connectors.  In this after school program, your child will learn to create small, elegant machines like cranes, operable doors, motorized cars and mechanisms. Your child will be introduced to the process of concept design, prototype, and development activity to make machines work.

3D Modeling and Printing:

3D Modeling uses the powerful software Fusion 360 to model and Simplify 3D to format for printing.  We will teach your child how to use the software to create 3D components to be 3D printed.  We will then teach your child to properly format a 3D object to slice and print.  The class will start at a very basic level starting with printing a cube.  In this after school program, we will teach your child how to design, model and print more complex geometries.
